Q & A With Josh From The Happy Endings

Someone is walking past as you’re playing, they get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?

“These guys should be on the radio more.” But that goes for so many great Melbourne bands doesn’t it?

How long have you been gigging and writing?

Almost more years than I haven’t been!

What has been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?

Personally, either Big Day Out or I think if you ask the whole band, we’d say Positivus Festival 2009 in Latvia with the Ting Tings and Moby. Pete Doherty gave me a pack of smokes and half a bottle of bourbon.

Which band would you most like to play a show with?

At our launch we’re playing with Zoophyte, who we love and want to marry and we could tour together for our honeymoon.

What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?

Depends how you rate success. If you’re talking financially, then it’s more about what they have to do to survive, and that is touring. There is no money in record sales, so you gotta get out there and gig and sell tickets and t-shirts. If you rate success as flash in the pan popularity, then perhaps try Xfactor or Idol or have some kind of gimmick. People have rather short attention spans nowadays.

In dealing with each other, day in, day out, how do you deal with confrontations that involve either a mate or a bandmate?

There is humour in most personality traits and we can all take the piss out of ourselves.

Do you have any releases to date?

Our new album Greatest View From Alcatraz just came out. It’s awesome and we love it. You can get it from iTunes or waterfrontrecords.com

Why should everyone come and see your band?

I pity da fool who don’t come see us play. It’s always fun and we love big crowds. We are about to go on another European tour and the crowds there go ape shit. The next Melbourne show is our album launch and our only Melbourne show for ages so don’t miss it. Did I sell it enough?
