Acclaimed Australian photographer Liz Ham has announced the upcoming release and exhibition of a new photography book. Entitled Punk Girls, the book will feature photography and writings of women in punk rock, collected from Polaroid shots and interviews taken around the country over the last five years. Ham explains, “I want to demystify perceptions of women in punk and give a voice and recognition to an incredibly diverse and intersectional scene that has, over the last 40 years since the birth of punk, evolved to become a very exciting place for women to feel active, supported and confident in pursuing their freedom to look and feel themselves.” Ham has also announced a launch and signing for the book at Brunswick Bound on Thursday November 30.
In response to the ongoing asylum seeker crisis on Manus Island, the Footscray Hotel is hosting a benefit show to raise funds for and bring light to the humanitarian violations currently occurring. With funds going directly to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, the lineup is rounded out by Force of Will, Enzyme, Judas Wolf and Dove. Catch ‘em all at the Footscray Hotel on Friday November 17.
US post-hardcore punks Drug Church have announced the upcoming release of their third full-length album. Following up 2015’s Hit Your Head, the band has since left Upstate New York to relocate to Los Angeles. With the new full-length still untitled, the band has released the lead single ‘Weed Pin’.
North Carolina garage indie-punks Superchunk have announced the upcoming release of their 14th studio album. Entitled What A Time To Be Alive, the album follows up their 2013 comeback album I Hate Music. The band has released the lead album-titled single as a lyric video, with the band’s return to a harder-edged punk sound focusing squarely on the Trump administration and the American current political climate. The new record will be available Friday February 16 on the band’s own Merge Records.
Last week renowned riot grrl innovators Bikini Kill reunited to play a song for the first time since 1997. All three original members Kathleen Hanna, Kathi Wilcox and Tobi Vail were in attendance at the launch of a new book about The Raincoats. The band performed the track ‘For Tammy Rae’off their 1993 debut full-length Pussy Whipped.
