Skate-punks Teenage Bottlerocket have announced a national tour this October, their first time since their 2011 tour with Frenzal Rhomb. The band are touring in support of their upcoming full-length album of cover songs Stealing the Covers, out this July on Fat Wreck. Teenage Bottlerocket will play The Bendigo Hotel on Friday October 6.
Emo-alt rockers Joyce Manor have released a single as part of the ongoing Polyvinyl four-track Singles Series. In this project, bands are sent a four-track Tascam cassette recorder in which they record a song directly to tape, release the single, and then send the recorder to the next band to do their song. The band’s single NBTSA is now streaming online. It’s a step in the right direction towards their earlier raw sound, but the songwriting is unfortunately still in the same ballpark as the middle of the road emo-alt rock they’ve been putting forward the past few years.
Long-running rockers Rise Against have announced the upcoming release of their eighth studio album. Entitled Wolves, the band has released lead single The Violence, available as a digital download with album pre-orders. “In many ways, a Rise Against show is a safe space for our fans,” lead singer and guitarist Tim McIlrath explains. “But I realised that I don’t only want to create safe spaces, I want to create dangerous spaces where misogyny can’t exist, where xenophobia can’t exist. I want to create spaces where those sentiments don’t have any air, and they suffocate: where those ideas die. Wolves isn’t about creating a safe space, it’s about creating a space that’s dangerous for injustice.” Wolves is out Friday June 9 on EMI Australia.
Central coast hardcore band Choke have announced the upcoming release of a new 7” single, due out Friday June 9 on Resist Records. Entitled Desire, the single follows up the band’s 2016 full length Left With Nothing. Pre-orders are available now for this limited run.
Danzig has released a new single off his upcoming album. Entitled Devil on Highway 9, the track is taken from the upcoming Black Laden Crown. Instrumentally, whoever is in his band right now seems to be contently chugging along on a karaoke backing track, with production and mixing duties handled by someone’s 14-year-old nephew. Glenn Danzig’s voice as a 61-year-old man has fully entered Abe Simpson old man territory, almost along the lines of Lou Reed’s album with Metallica. The song itself is passable but the amount of actual effort put into the performance and recording is completely lackluster. At least it’s better than that terrible covers EP he did last year. Black Laden Crown is due out next month on Nuclear Blast.
Long-running mathcore lords The Dillinger Escape Plan have announced their final tour of Australia this October, touring in support of their new album Dissociation and marking their final world tour after 20 years as a band. Their Friday October 20 show at Corner Hotel sold out in four hours, but The Dillinger Escape Plan will play a second show at Corner Hotel on Thursday October 19.
