Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2022, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots remains one of the most influential alt-rock albums of all time. The Grammy award-winners reached critical acclaim with the release, earning their first RIAA certified gold record. This album was the eagerly awaited follow-up to 1999’s masterwork, The Soft Bulletin, proving that singer and guitarist Wayne Coyne and multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd had yet another masterpiece in them.
Featuring revered tracks Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1 and Fight Test, the album is a profound quasi-concept work drenched in a wondrous swirl of ambient electronics, digital beats, and psychedelic splendour. The record also yielded the timeless stargazing track Do You Realize??, which was named the official rock song of the band’s native state of Oklahoma in 2009 and earned them their first-ever Grammy award for the cosmic album-closing instrumental Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon (Utopia Planitia).
