The program, the list of events and the guest speakers have been announced for agIdeas International Design Week 2011.
The agIdeas International Design Week is one of the largest and most prestigious design festivals in the world. This year it will bring 40 internationally acclaimed and inspirational leaders in design to Melbourne, who have pushed the boundaries and excelled in their area of creativity.
From May 1–5 it will present an extraordinary program of events that celebrate design excellence and promotes the value of design-driven innovation.
Speakers in 2011 include Susan Bonds (USA), Oslo Davis (Australia), Sascha Lobe (Germany), Iain McCaig (USA), Fanette Mellier (France), Ken Miki (Japan), Per Mollerup (Denmark), Frances Rings (Australia), and Wout de Vringer (Netherlands).
Susan Bonds is a pioneer of innovative forms of immersive interactive crossplatform experiences and the driving force behind 42 Entertainment. She is working to develop a new approach to engage audiences for events like the launch of the film The Dark Knight.
Melbourne-based illustrator Oslo Davis is fast approaching cult status for his droll cartoons that depict the absurd, the mundane and the irritating, with hilarious results.
Wout de Vringer is one of the foremost designers in the Netherlands. Drawing on vernacular materials from design history and contemporary mass media, his work is recognised for its distinctive imagery and typography.
Some of the events happening in agIdeas Design Week include the International Design Forum, Futures (an inspiring career presentation & expo for secondary students, their parents and teachers), Masterclasses (a full day workshop with leading international designers), and Studio Access.
