Punjabi-Australian artist Parvyn is back with a fresh sound, delivering a lush neo-soul track with her new single New Game, which drops Thursday 3 October.
The single gives a taste of what to expect from her highly anticipated upcoming album Maujuda, due for release on 1 November. The title of the album, which translates to “being present, current, or existing”, reflects Parvyn’s exploration of her family’s migration story, weaving themes of love, relationships, and belonging.
To celebrate the release, Parvyn and her band will be performing at the OzAsia Festival in Adelaide on Friday 8 November, showcasing her genre-blending style that combines elements of classical Indian raga, alternative jazz, and Indian pop.

Drawing from the cyclical patterns in relationships, New Game is a heartfelt reflection on heartbreak, framed in a rhythmic 7-beat cycle that mimics the emotional journey. The track stands out with hints of disco and soul, interspersed with Parvyn’s stunning vocal interludes in Sargam (classical Indian raga scatting), while Mary Ancheta’s keys and Chris Davis’ trumpet elevate the song’s dynamic flow.
Recorded in Vancouver at Afterlife Studios, Maujuda features seven tracks, each one reflecting different stories and perspectives, including the introspective new single New Game and the self-love anthem Free To Be Myself. Produced by Mary Jane HIFI (Jane Aurora and Mary Ancheta), the album dives into the complexities of migration, family, and self-discovery. Parvyn’s grandmother’s story also features on Lay Awake, which touches on how tightly migrants can hold onto their culture, sometimes causing generational rifts.

Reflecting on her career, Parvyn has previously captured audiences with her work in the Bollywood-inspired psychedelic rock band The Bombay Royale. Now venturing into solo work, her ethereal vocals and genre-crossing sound earned her debut album Sa a nomination for Best World Music Album at the 2022 ARIA Awards.
As she embarks on this next musical chapter, Parvyn hopes Maujuda will bring comfort and connection to listeners. “As an artist, I want to do whatever I can to make this world a better place and contribute positively to humanity. I hope this record brings solace and connection to as many people as possible.”
New Game is out Thursday 3 October via Gaga Digi, with Maujuda dropping Friday 1 November on Bandcamp.
