Point Lonsdale’s iconic lighthouse party is back for another massive coastal session

Point Lonsdale
words by Frankie Anderson-Byrne

6th Annual Point Lonsdale Lighthouse Party returns to the Bellarine this summer.

Point Lonsdale Boardriders’ 6th Annual Lighthouse Party is locked in for seven February and trust us, it’s so worth the 90-minute cruise from Melbourne.

Happening right beneath Point Lonsdale Lighthouse; one of the few working lighthouses left in Australia with an actual lightkeeper, this volunteer-run shindig has grown from a local surf club fundraiser into one of the Bellarine’s biggest coastal celebrations.

Last year pulled over 1000 punters, and organisers are prepping for an even bigger turnout this time around.

Set on an open-air wooden stage wrapped by moonah trees, the 6th Annual Lighthouse Party brings together local and touring acts for a 10-hour session of indie, groove and surfy rhythms.

This year’s lineup includes Elsie, Fenn Wilson & The Weather, Matteo, Randal’s Dad, Shock Corridor, The Groundswell and The Heart Shapes. Happy hour kicks off at 2pm, giving early arrivals an extra reason to make the trip down the Bellarine Highway.

What makes this different from your standard festival gig is that it’s entirely volunteer-powered by Point Lonsdale Boardriders Club.

Every dollar from ticket sales goes straight back into supporting young local surfers and keeping the town’s surf culture thriving.

Organisers Max Lazarus and Matteo Meirelles reckon the event has become a genuine summer highlight for the region, bringing people into Point Lonsdale to fill holiday rentals, hit up local cafes and shops, and give the whole community a lift.

“We’re stoked to put on another massive day,” says Lazarus.

“There’s just something magic about live music under the lighthouse, it’s honestly the best outdoor stage you could ask for.”

Point Lonsdale sits at the tip of the Bellarine Peninsula where Port Phillip Bay meets Bass Strait through The Rip; one of the world’s most treacherous stretches of water. While the surf conditions are famously gnarly, the town itself is pretty chill: fish and chips on the foreshore, coastal walks to Queenscliff, and that iconic lighthouse backdrop.

Getting there is straightforward, just over an hour’s drive via the Westgate Bridge and Princes Freeway through Geelong, then follow the Bellarine Highway signs towards Queenscliff. You can also train it to Geelong and bus down, if that’s your thing.

With the lighthouse reserve as your backdrop, cold drinks flowing from happy hour, and a killer lineup stretching into midnight, this one’s shaping up as a proper coastal party.

Book the rental or just day trip it, either way, you’ve got plans for February 7.
