Melbourne instrumental psychedelic doom power trio NON have dropped their debut album Vipassana.
Featuring members of Motherslug and Isua, NON evoke soundscapes from a time long past while worshipping the gear, tone and influences that have helped forge their own brand of heavy, instrumental music. The power trio draw inspiration from acts like Om, Earthless, Sleep, Wyatt E and more, carving out their place in Melbourne’s underground heavy scene.

Vipassana features six instrumental tracks weaving together 70s-inspired psychedelic jams, crushingly heavy riffs, obscure samples and exotic grooves. Nearly four years of the band’s musical journey are summarised across these tracks, never to be played the same way again. For fans of Earthless, Om, Sleep, Elder and YOB, there’s plenty to sink into here.
The album is streaming everywhere now, with vinyl pre-order information coming soon.
NON play two upcoming shows this December, 13 December at The Gem Bar in Collingwood with Seedy Jeezus, and 20 December with Kilat Besi Hitam and Mammon’s Throne. The 13 December show marks the final gig of the year for Seedy Jeezus, who released their third studio album Damned to the Depths in June and have since toured Sydney, Newcastle, Geelong, Castlemaine, Hobart, Launceston and Melbourne multiple times.
They’ve played multiple shows with Earthless and The Neptune Power Federation along the way, and this December date comes in the middle of recording another album.
Seedy Jeezus describe the Gem Bar show as a straight ahead, sweaty affair; the way they like it. They’ll play some favourites and maybe even some songs they don’t know yet.
NON join them as support, making it a solid double bill of heavy instrumental sounds to close out the year.
