This fresh single arrives as Bibby was in Los Angeles, adding the final touches to a brand new collection of songs. The accompanying music video is a whirlwind glimpse into the artist’s LA experience, capturing the chaotic charm of the city in a way that’s both captivating and honest.
Peter Bibby took a moment to share his thoughts on the video, saying, “I flew to LA to mix some new music I had written, and we decided to shoot a music video while I was there. I had basically no idea what we were going to film, but Kristofski just picked me up and drove my jet-lagged self all over the place, pointing a camera at me everywhere we went.
“The result is a kind of chaotic holiday montage, like a ‘visit LA’ promo video if they didn’t actually want you to visit LA. I think it’s incredible.”
The One is a rollicking slice of up-tempo indie rock, representing Peter Bibby’s first release since his highly acclaimed 2020 album, Marge. Critics hailed Marge as an alt-rock masterpiece that tackled life’s hardships with ferocity. The new single, The One, showcases Bibby’s distinct and freewheeling songwriting style, cementing his status as an icon in Australia’s independent music scene.
According to Peter Bibby, The One was a love song written in two parts. He began crafting it during the early stages of a new romance, filled with anxiety and self-doubt. A year later, he found himself living with the same person, happier than ever. The result is a heartfelt ode to love and transformation.
Peter Bibby’s live performances are legendary for their rough-and-tumble charm and his affable stage presence. He’s shared stages with bands like Pond, rocked festival crowds at Laneway, Falls, and SXSW, and headlined countless rowdy shows.
His discography boasts three well-received studio albums – Butcher/Hairstylist/Beautician (2014), Grand Champion (2018), and the aforementioned Marge (2020). Peter Bibby is celebrated as an inherently working-class and genuinely independent artist, a fact underlined by the documentary Chasing Palm Springs, which followed his cross-country journey from Perth to Melbourne in a temperamental van.
