Palace Church Street is throwing $5 movie tickets to show off its glamorous new makeover

Words by staff writer

Melbourne's beloved bayside cinema has had a serious glow-up and wants you to see it for yourself.

Palace Church Street, the cinema formerly known as Palace Dendy Brighton, has emerged from an extensive renovation looking like it just walked off a Hollywood film set and into Melbourne’s bayside.

The transformation has turned the iconic Brighton cinema into something genuinely luxurious. We’re talking a palm-inspired foyer that sets the mood the moment you walk in, a sophisticated bar channelling old Hollywood glamour, freshly redesigned restrooms, and upgraded auditoriums throughout the venue. Cinema Four has gone full premium with fully reclining chairs, which is honestly the only way to watch a three-hour epic these days.

To celebrate the makeover, Palace Church Street is slinging $5 tickets to all general sessions from 11-17 December. That’s one week to catch the latest releases at a price that barely covers a flat white these days. Films screening during the offer include Wicked: For Good, Zootopia 2, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Nuremberg.

The venue is part of Palace Cinemas, Australia’s largest independent cinema group, which operates more than 160 screens nationwide. The company also saved The Astor Theatre back in 2015, which remains the southern hemisphere’s oldest continuously running single screen theatre.

A booking fee applies for online transactions, and the $5 deal is exclusive to general sessions at Palace Church Street. Special events, film festival screenings, Avatar: Fire and Ash Movie Mixer Previews on 17 December, and Russell Hobbs British Film Festival encore screenings are excluded from the offer.
