National Youth Week OWN IT! events kick off next week!

National Youth Week (NYW) will kick off with a bang in Melbourne on 2 April 2011 with a concert featuring The Vines, Jebediah and Tim and Jean, followed by an array of youth focused events across the state including an action packed calendar of events in Broadmeadows.

This year’s NYW theme is OWN IT! that’s all about expressing yourself and having the opportunity to show the community what you can do. NYW invites young people from across the region to showcase their talents!

The Broadmeadows Shopping Centre in conjunction with Hume City Council Youth Services will run an OWN IT! event from 7 to 14 April to inspire and entertain the local youth community.

Basically it’s a variety of free activities and workshops such as circus skills, DJ workshops, popping, street art, creative writing and African drumming to name a few as well as an opening day movie night with all proceeds heading to the amazing folk at The Salvation Army!

Future emerging writers can also develop their skills with the help of young award winning novelist Amra Pajalic and learn the craft of journal making and zines with talented Melbourne visual artist Rachel Hughs.

For more information on the event and to register for workshops head to broadmeadowsshopping.com.au.

Don’t forget to also check out the rest of NYW activities across the state including the the opening extravaganza at  Birrarung Mar featuring three homegrown bands (as mentioned above) at youthweek.comAh to be young!
