Following their 2019 award-winning album Alien, Northlane’s new offering is set to be their “most expansive and dynamic album yet”.

“The sound Northlane have been working towards over the span of their career has been fully realised on Obsidian,” a press release said.

“Sonically spanning the gamut of their entire discography, Northlane’s trademark [heaviness] comfortably coexists with techno, drum and bass, intriguing synths, perplexing time signatures and widescreen choruses”.

The band previewed the album with ‘Clockwork’ earlier this year, a fever dream which shared an insight into the mind of a musician forced to be creative after a devastating year and the toll it took, while also releasing a new single ‘Echo Chamber’.

‘Echo Chamber’ looks at the polarisation over social media and serves as a timely reminder to log off and tune out when necessary.

Frontman Marcus Bridge said “it’s hard to be on the internet without seeing people get continuously angry about something”.

“We’re addicted to having a hot take about nothing and it’s quite exhausting, at the same time I shouldn’t let it bother me that much but it’s like a ringing in my ears after a while, so I’m praying I go deaf,” he said.

The tour will start in Fremantle on June 16 and hit Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane with special guests Plini, Sleep Token and ALT.
