As part of the showcase, Sansom will be showcasing his Transformer exhibit – featuring more than 130 works, many never before exhibited. Barton brings her The Highway is a Disco work to the gallery – which examines Barton’s imaginative world of exuberant and ornately decorated portraits.
Other features include Maudsley’s enigmatic Our Knowing and Not Knowing display and O’Callaghan’s Ensemble and Paramor’s Palace of the Republic.
NGV director, Tony Ellwood, solidified his interest in local works. “Summer at NGV Australia will offer an exceptional line-up of free Australian contemporary art exhibitions, from the spectacular and otherworldly images of Del Kathryn Barton to the eclectic paintings of Gareth Sansom, alongside new and recent works by Helen Maudsley, Louise Paramor and Mel O’Callaghan.”
