The exhibition, entitled The Raft of the Tagata Pasifika (People of the Pacific), features Semu’s latest in powerful photographic works which sees him re-stage two iconic European paintings with a cast a of 22 indigenous actors from the Cook Islands.
Displayed on large-scale light boxes, Semu re-imagines John Steele and Charles F. Goldie’s iconic painting The Arrival of the Maoris in New Zealand (1898) to gripping effect.
