The regional takeover isn’t just about elite hoopers – it’s a full community slam. Younger fans can get up close with their heroes through player clinics and school visits, while the city leans into its proud basketball heritage.

Fresh off hosting Melbourne United and local star Dash Daniels earlier this year, Bendigo is ready to welcome the whole league for what’s shaping up as a serious regional party.

The timing lines up perfectly with ongoing upgrades at Bendigo Stadium, including two new indoor courts and fresh lighting for the outdoor netball facilities. Organisers are hoping the Blitz will deliver a major boost to local hotels, restaurants and businesses as fans roll into town for the long weekend of basketball.

Premier Jacinta Allan, also the Member for Bendigo East, said the event is a huge win for the region. “I know how important basketball is to my hometown, and bringing the NBL Blitz to Bendigo is a huge win for the region. Not only will this inspire young basketballers, it will bring more visitors to Bendigo’s hotels, restaurants and cafes.”

Minister for Tourism Natalie Suleyman added that events like this are exactly what regional Victoria needs, while Visit Victoria CEO Brendan McClements highlighted the chance for fans to explore everything else the city and surrounding region have to offer.

With tickets set to drop soon, basketball fans in Melbourne and beyond should start clearing their September calendars. This is regional hoops at its loudest and proudest.
