Asia TOPA will welcome 410 artists and collectives from 17 countries, delivering more than 1,000 performances across Melbourne.

This year’s program features 18 world premieres and 18 fresh commissions spread across 20 venues, marking a triumphant return for the celebrated triennial.

“As a major international arts event, this festival aims to foster ties with our global neighbours, bringing together cultural innovators and visionaries from the Asia-Pacific to our city. We are privileged to have so many incredible artists as part of the program this year; there is truly something for everyone,” says Asia TOPA Creative Director Jeff Khan.

The opening night kicks off with Milestone at Hamer Hall, celebrating pioneering Asian-Australian creative William Yang. Other highlights include U>N>I>T>E>D, an international dance and music collaboration at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, and Gapu Ŋupan (Chasing the Rainbow), which brings together First Nations artists from Arnhem Land and Taiwan.

The triennial has established itself as a cornerstone of Melbourne’s cultural calendar since its 2017 debut under founding Creative Director Stephen Armstrong. The first two editions in 2017 and 2020 featured 1,960 artists across 631 events, setting a high bar for cultural programming.

This year’s expanded program includes a new Nightlife and Knowledge stream alongside its trademark mix of dance, theatre, music and visual art.
