Monster Fest: Welcome To The Apocalypse reveals mammoth 2020 program

'Occupation Rainfall'

The epic film festival comes to Melbourne next month.

This December, Carlton’s Cinema Nova will be transformed into a house of horror when Monster Fest: Welcome To The Apocalypse takes over the big screen.

Running from December 3-10, the film festival has unveiled the program for the ninth edition of its Melbourne iteration.

Featuring films from across the world, this year’s Monster Fest will host a number of Australian and Victorian premieres as well as a special 35th-anniversary screening of Night Train To Terror, a bunch of short films and a special mystery screening.

Opening night will showcase Meander – straight from its world premiere at Stiges International Fantastic Film Festival – a nail-biting piece from filmmaker Mathieu Turi (Hostile) about surviving the ultimate human video game.

Across the festival’s eight-day run you can expect to see films from The US, Belgium, France, Canada and Denmark, each of which are certain to make your skin crawl as you inch towards the edge of your seat in terror and awe.

The vast program will explore an eclectic spread of themes, each with an apocalyptic undertone.

From Synchronic, which sees New Orleans paramedics and best friends Steve and Dennis stumble upon a mysterious new party drug that challenges everything they know about reality, to Breeder, a dark survival horror exploring biohacking and the quest for eternal youth and 12 Hour Shift, a black comedy following a nurse whose side hustle as an organ trafficker goes horribly awry after a botched kidney delivery, these films will make 2020 look like a walk in the park.

In addition to the slate of new films, there’s also a couple of throwbacks in the mix, including a restoration of ’80s action classic, Action U.S.A. that’s sure to wrangle some nostalgia.

Finishing with a bang, the ‘Closing Night Christmassacre’ will present a double-feature extravaganza of holiday horror including Satan Claus is Coming To Town and a mystery movie from the dark recesses of the North Pole.

Whether you’re a fan of straight-up horror, sci-fi, action-thrillers or you like your scary with a comedic twist, there’s something for you on this year’s program. Welcome to your nightmares!
