MOFO is the Museum of Old and New Art’s Festival of Music and Art in Tasmania. For five days in January Mona’s underground galleries, sprawling lawns and other spaces will be transformed for the event.

The lineup features more than 300 artists, musicians and performers from as far from our shores as Ethiopia, Norway, Japan and Belgium.

Joining psych rockers The Flaming Lips on the lineup is an eclectic mix of musicians including percussionist Evelyn Glennie, award-winning composer Antonio Sánchez performing his original drums-only score to a screening of the Academy Award-winning film Birdman,  Japanese hip hop turntablist pioneer DJ Krush, Norway’s Jenny Hval and British poet-turned-rapper Kate Tempest.

Kate Miller-Heidke will be debuting new works with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, pop, jazz and cinematic multimedia will collide with Belgian outfit HERMESensemble, there will be choral performances in twisted stairwells and the glass elevator, and graphic novel and spoken word in Cinemona.

MOFO events and exhibitions will also be spilling out around Hobart, at the Federation Concert Hall, Rosny Barn, Moonah Arts Centre, Salamanca Arts Centre’s Peacock Theatre and Kelly’s Garden, Contemporary Arts Tasmania, and even at Alonnah Hall on Bruny Island.
