Manning Fireworks: A breakthrough album
Released earlier this year, Manning Fireworks has been hailed as one of 2024’s standout indie rock albums. Featuring Lenderman’s sharp lyrical wit and distinctive sound, the album combines humour with a haze of melancholy. Critics have praised the record for its warmth, rawness, and memorable guitar solos, with The New York Times describing Lenderman’s observations as “enveloped in a haze of melancholy” and Vulture calling She’s Leaving You a “winner of a song.”
The album was recorded at Asheville’s Drop of Sun Studios and co-produced with Alex Farrar. Standout tracks like You Don’t Know The Shape I’m In showcase Lenderman’s evolving artistry, with its dreamlike arrangements praised as “surprising” by Hearing Things. A video for the track, created by Chuck Shreve and Angel James, was also released alongside the tour announcement.
A rising star in indie rock
MJ Lenderman’s rise has been marked by accolades from Interview Magazine, NPR Music, and The New Yorker, which likened his style to Neil Young, Palace Music, and Silver Jews. His live performances, featuring his band The Wind, have garnered acclaim for their raw energy and emotional depth.
Presented by Mistletone and Triple R, the Australian tour will allow fans to experience Manning Fireworks and other favourites live, cementing MJ Lenderman’s place as a major force in indie rock.
