MIFF’s in-cinema screenings were scheduled to commence on Thursday August 12.

After postponing its first week of screenings due to restriction changes in Victoria last week, Melbourne International Film Festival has been forced to cancel all remaining Melbourne cinema screenings as part of this year’s festival.

The recently eased restrictions in regional Victoria mean screenings can still go ahead outside metropolitan Melbourne.

While physical screenings won’t go ahead in Melbourne, cinephiles across the country can tune into the festival’s streaming platform, MIFF Play, where they can choose from over 100 titles.

As a result of the changes to this year’s festival, MIFF have added 30 new titles to MIFF Play.

MIFF 2021 will now mark the festival’s second consecutive year of being forced to run as a digital festival due to COVID-19 restrictions.

As a small, not-for-profit festival with minor government funding, MIFF has asked those who are in a position to do so to donate to the festival in order to keep it afloat in these difficult times.

Ticketholders will receive a full refund within the next seven to ten business days.

MIFF will run online until Sunday August 22. Check out the MIFF Play program via the festival website
