– Festival favourite Dave Hughes has added two extra runs of his show Freezer Bread. The Nova 100 breakfast host will perform two extra shows at 7pm tonight and tomorrow at the Victoria Hotel. Tickets are avaliable from Ticketmaster.
– SPECIAL EVENTS: Three big events take place this weekend at the festival. On Saturday, the original cast of ABC TV series Australia You’re Standing In It unite for a reunion, celebrating 30 years since the show first aired. The festivities kick off at 5pm. On Sunday, the Deadly Funny National Showcase features this country’s finest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander comics. The show will be MC’ed by Constantina Bush, and feature a special set from Sean Choolburra. Finally, the festival favourite event – the Annual Great Debate, two teams made up of the festival’s finest talkers will battle like worms wriggling around in a bucket of fish bait. The show starts at 5pm, and tickets for all three events can be purchased from Ticketmaster.
– KIDS COMEDY: If you’re a kid or just young at heart, the Comedy Festival provides a laughter filled playground to take in today. The (very) Big Laugh Out takes place in the City Square Pitch today. See festival acts Mooky at 1pm, Les Chiche Capon at 2.30pm, and Hilby at 4pm. Entry for these shows are free. Other family friendly events on today include the Comedy Club For Kids, Gwen and John: A Melodramatic Love Story and Matty Grey. The 6pm show features Dave Bloustien, Gavin Baskerville, Adam Francis, and Damian Smith, while the 7.15pm show has Nick Cody, Katerina Vrana, Matt Elsbury, and John Robertson. Girls Night has Same Love special tonight featuring gay and lesbian performers, featuring Lori Bell, DeAnne Smith, Nath Valvo, and Geraldine Hickey The show starts at 6.30pm at the Hairy Little Sister.
– If it’s Festival Comedy from the UK you’re after, try AAAAAAAARGH! It’s a Bonanza of Festival Comedy from the UK! Tonight’s show features Yianni Agisilou, Terry North, Kunt and The Gang, and compere Nik Coppin. The action kicks off 7pm at Red Violin in the city. Headliners, the showcase of American comics features Eddie Pepitone, Michael Che, and Pete Holmes, 9.45pm tonight at the Town Hall. Other variety specials include The Early Show, Tri Nations Comedy, The $5 Comedy Variety Hour, Here Come The Girls, Commedia Dell Parte, Edinburgh Festabesta, Picture This! and the Best of British.
– LATE NIGHT: But if you want to stay up late, there’s plenty of late shows to catch at the festival. The cameras are rolling at The Hi-Fi Bar for tonight’s edition of Comedy Up Late. The special, hosted by Lawrence Mooney returns to the Festival Club this evening at 11.15pm. Get your tickets at the door. Late Night Theatresports gets the improv going, 11pm tonight at the Town Hall and Dom Romeo launches into the questions with another edition of Stand-Up Sit-Down: Comics in Conversation, also at 11pm at the Victoria Hotel. Other late night shows include Facty Fact, The New Conway Tonight Show, Capital Punishment, The After Party, and Ali McGregor’s Late-Nite Variety-Nite Night.
