Mighty prog legends Dream Theater will return to Australia in September to celebrate their 1992 breakthrough album Images & Words by playing this classic in its entirety. They’ll be at the Palais Theatre on Wednesday September 20.

Metal Blade Records and BMG will release For the Sake of Heaviness: the History of Metal Blade Records on Tuesday August 29, a new book celebrating the iconic metal label’s history. Written by label founder and CEO Brian Slagel with Mark Eglinton, the book features a foreword by Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich. Slagel comments: “I have been asked many times about doing a book about the history of Metal Blade and it just seemed like a cool thing to do to document the 35th anniversary. You never really stop to think about a lot of this stuff, so doing the book is a great way of looking back at how many awesome things have happened to me and Metal Blade.”

Stone Sour’s new masterpiece Hydrograd is out now. While the band’s last few albums have nudged damn close to Slipknot levels of heaviness in parts, Hydrograd is more eclectic, not afraid to celebrate the band’s rock influences but also not shy about the metal either. It’s the first album of original material by the band to feature guitarist Christian Martucci and bassist Johnny Chow. See them at Festival Hall on Friday August 25.

Max and Iggor Cavalera will bring their Return To Roots tour to Australia with special guests Skindred this September. The tour sees the brothers celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sepultura’s legendary Roots album. Max Cavalera says “Metalheads. It’s time. Twenty years ago, we released the Roots album and changed the face of metal forever.” Iggor adds: “I am very proud to play Roots again – to reaffirm that after 20 years, it still moves people.” Catch them at The Forum Theatre on Saturday September 23.

Caligula’s Horse will hit the road for a national tour over September and October in support of their new album In Contact, to be released on Friday September 15 through Inside Out Music. Vocalist Jim Grey says “In Contact has been an enormous proposition – the stories told in this album feel deeply personal, and we’ve never been more excited to share a new work with the world. The sounds on this album are dark and adventurous – but without losing the bittersweet and joyful sounds we developed in writing Bloom.” Don’t miss Caligula’s Horse at Max Watt’s on Saturday September 30.
