Ne Obliviscaris guitarist Benjamin Baret has released a new guitar play-through video online for the track Pyrrhic, which is taken from the Australian dark prog metal visionaries latest full-length Citadel. Baret says, “The riffs for that song are inspired by the great Göteborg scene of the late ‘90s, with a more modern twist to it. The harmonised guitar part relies on a descending chromatic pattern, which gives the main riff its flavour.” NeO are currently working hard in studio to create a follow-up album.

Dead By April blend musical extremes to an unheard and unprecedented level. DBA fuse relentless metal riffing with soaring, catching melodies that reach deep into your lungs, compelling you to sing along. There’s nothing quite like the resulting mix of lyrical rock sensibility and bone crushing metal dynamism that the band deliver. Now they’re headed to Australia, and you can catch them at 170 Russell on Friday July 14.

Stargazing post-prog rockers Anathema return to Australia in December to celebrate the release of their 11th album, The Optimist. Following their celebrated stripped-down shows of 2015, Anathema are bringing their full electric show to blast the cobwebs out of the rigging. The album lands on Friday June 9, and you can see them at 170 Russell on Wednesday December 6.

Igorrr, the brainchild of French musician and eclectic composer Gautier Serre, will release new album, Savage Sinusoid via Metal Blade Records on Friday June 16. Electronic manipulations, accordion, saxophone, sitar, harpsichord, mandolin and strings sit comfortably alongside ruthless blastbeats, chunky riffs, death grunts and soaring operatic vocals. “I want to make the music I love, without asking myself if it’s gonna be too complex or too far from what people like,” Serre says. “I want to make the music which has sense to me, with no restrictions, like a big party with metalheads, electronics nerds, classical and baroque-heads getting drunk and joining together to bring the best of every genre.”

Swedish traditional/doom/vintage rock powerhouse Avatarium, founded by Soen guitarist Marcus Jidell and Candlemass chief Leif Edling and featuring the amazing vocals of Jennie-Ann Smith, will release their new album Hurricanes And Halos via Nuclear Blast on Friday May 26. “In times like these we are constantly reminded how power enables people to do evil in the name of a good cause,” Jidell says of the album’s theme. “Whether there are religious, political or cultural overtones, their goal is always to manipulate and create fear in our hearts.”
