GREAT NIGHT OF METAL AT THE BENDIGO

Head to the Bendigo Hotel in Collingwood on Friday August 26 for a heavy metal party for all persuasions. Vintage metal meets black thrash meets classic rock meets speed metal. Made In Purple are Australia’s premiere Deep Purple tribute band. Playing songs from all eras, they do so with heart and skill, be prepared for a face melting experience. Over one hour of the classics to make sure everyone gets their fill. Malichor have been pummelling skulls with their brand of black thrash for some years now. With a new album on the horizon, the band is set to unleash their finest performances and recordings yet. If you yearn for a time when “heavy metal” meant bands like Thin Lizzy and Blue Oyster Cult and you’d prefer to hear Judas Priest and Scorpions’ ‘70s tracks then Montane have got you covered. Featuring members of King Fate, Nothing Sacred and Destroyer 666, they’ve created something that sounds nothing like the bands they come from. Expect simple riffs and 4/4 driving grooves, soaring vocals and hard hitting drums. This is music to drink beer to and speed down the desert highway back to 1978. Insane speed power thrashers Guillotyne will be kicking off this night of heavy metal madness with all guns blazing, so be there early to catch some Agent Steel-style craziness and bang some heads. Ten bucks entry, doors at 8pm.

NEW ALBUM FROM THE RADIO SUN

Local melodic hard rockers The Radio Sun will release their new album Outside Looking In on Friday September 30 on Melodic Rock Records & Anderstein Music Japan. The boys have again teamed up with ex Danger Danger vocalist Paul Laine to mix and co produce the album. Laine also lends his pipes to sing a dual lead vocal on a track while guitar god Brett Garsed (John Farnham, Nelson) guests with a guitar solo. You can catch The Radio Sun live on Saturday August 27 where they’ll support Kiss The Vyper. The Radio Sun will then trek to the USA and play at Rock’n’Skull Fest in October. The Radio Sun’s new album can be pre ordered via the band’s website at theradiosun.com.

AMARANTHE ANNOUNCE ALBUM #4

Amaranthe will release new album Maximalism on Spinefarm Records/Caroline Australia on Friday October 21. This hyper-modern, metallic beast of a record is the band’s fourth since first joining forces in 2008. Produced once again by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Epica, Delain) and mastered by Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Apocalyptica, Dragonforce), it sees the Swedish/Danish sextet delivering 12 new tracks that fully live up to the ‘bigger, bolder’ promise of the title. “Maximalism is our manifesto to the world,” guitarist Olof Morck says. “We are genuinely thrilled with the new material, definitely our most diverse collection to date; our trademark ‘bleeding edge’ modern metal remains intact, of course, but fused with an even broader range of genres than before. There’s everything here including stadium rock, innovative pop and danceable super hits. Expect these tunes to enter your mind on a permanent basis.”

OPETH AT THE OPERA HOUSE

This is going to be huge. Opeth will perform at the Sydney Opera House on Thursday February 6, 2017, presented by David Roy Williams and Metropolis Touring in association with United Talent Agency and Northern Music Co. It’s part of a planned run of three special shows in historic venues around the world, including Radio City Music Hall in New York on Saturday October 1 and SSE Wembley Arena in London on Saturday November 19. The new Opeth album Sorceress is out on Friday September 30 on Moderbolaget Records/Nuclear Blast Entertainment. “These three shows will be completely unique in terms of songs, spanning over two separate set lists,” Mikael Akerfeldt says. “The first set will consist

of songs exclusively from the Deliverance/Damnation records, that was just celebrated with a re-release combo package by the newly revived Music For Nations label. We’ll pull out songs from our back catalogue and mix it up with newer stuff during the second set. We’ll only play this set list three times on the whole world tour, so if you miss it, you’ll have missed it. Of course all other shows will be treated with the same amount of respect and we’ll chisel out a nice diverse set list spanning over our entire career for every single show during the tours. We very much hope to see you there.” Tickets are available now from The Sydney Opera House website.
