Hosted by Melbourne social club The Literary Lounge, this event is intentionally designed for solo attendees. Come alone, many guests will be doing the same. Meet new faces, exchange ideas, and connect beyond the surface through a shared love of all things interesting. It’s a relaxed space to chat and leave with new friends.

Bring whatever sparks joy in conversation; whether it’s a topic you cannot stop thinking about, a story worth sharing, an article, a book, your work, or simply an open heart and willingness to chat. The evening is gently facilitated to help conversations flow naturally, combating any nerves. The vibe stays warm, intimate, slow-paced, and thoughtful, creating a true space to be present.

Despite the club’s name, you do not have to love literature. Everyone with curiosity for art, culture, ideas, and meaningful conversation is welcome.

Founded by Melbourne-based writer Temwani in 2024, The Literary Lounge curates elevated experiences around literature, art, and diversity. Temwani built this from a deep desire for community rooted in intellect, cultural awareness, and creativity.

Held at Aster Cocktail & Wine, imagine dim lights casting a soft glow, gentle chatter filling the air, a glass of wine in hand, and a table of strangers who feel surprisingly familiar by the end of the night.

There’s no pressure, no awkward icebreakers; just the invitation to be yourself and listen as much as you share. Whether decompressing after work or arriving purely for the conversation, this is your chance to step into a space where curiosity leads and connection follows.

Temwani understands adult life gets hard. Surface-level interactions fall short when building real community. That’s why The Literary Lounge offers more: a past potluck event shared dishes and stories for vulnerability and warmth, and Paper Over Pixels next month celebrating pages over screens in a screen-free haven for reading and reflection.

Sometimes, all we really need is a good talk with good people. To Melbourne’s thinkers, question-askers, story-sharers, and certified “yappologists”,  this is your place.

Come unwind, explore new ideas, and rediscover the simple joy of talking like it matters.
