Mercato Centrale's opening date has been delayed by more than six months.
Mercato Centrale created a majoz buzz when the 3,000 square-metre Italian market announced it would open late this year, but an opening date has now been delayed until mid-2024.

Mercato Centrale is a major marketplace for Italian artisinal food and cultural events, with markets in Florence, Rome, Turin and Milan. It originally announced it would open a Melbourne market at 546 Collins Street back in April last year, with an opening date set for late 2023. That’s now been delayed to soft-launch set for mid next year.
Mercato Centrale’s Melbourne iteration is set to have 20 different food stalls, with the Italian markets gaining a large international reputation for hosting national institutions in the fields of art, music, science and culture.
In addition to a radio station, Mercato has also held site-specific installations by Daniel Buren, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Ai Weiwei and the collective UFO in the past.
