Melbourne’s Dumb Son tackle Sunday morning alcohol-induced anxiety

Dumb Son

New Melbourne band Dumb Son have entered the arena with apologetic rock ballad 'Uninvited (The Party Song)'.

“Well this is how you get yourself uninvited from all future parties / you just come along and cause a scene and scream at everybody…”

Melbourne’s Dumb Son are tackling that most relatable of feelings, waking up on a Sunday filled with regret over whatever the fuck you were doing last night.

What you need to know

  • New Melbourne band Dumb Son have just released their third single
  • ‘Uninvited (The Party Song)’ waxes lyrical on alcohol-related repercussions
  • The five-piece are playing at the Leadbeater Hotel on February 25

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

‘Uninvited (The Party Song) is the northside group’s crisp, key-driven third single that builds slow but kicks into gear with emotive sax, a punchy, versatile follow up to 2021’s releases ‘Safety First’ and ‘Please Wait to be Sedated’, the latter of which got the feel-good indie music video treatment above.

All in all there’s a sense of polish and potential surrounding the band, thanks in no small part to the pitch perfect vocals and production. After a long, arduous, metaphorical winter of baked beans and discount wine, the band are finding their feet again and ready to delight punters with their dazzling brand of indie rock.

They compare themselves to the likes of Rex Orange County, Electric Light Orchestra, and The Strokes: “good indie music that equally suits eating sandwiches or dancing”.
