The Melbourne-exclusive Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait exhibition is set to open this October, exploring the lesser-known history and proud Jewish heritage of the iconic singer/songwriter.
Adding to the excitement, a weekly installment of live music has been added to the action – perfect for knock-off drinks after work.
Each event captures a facet of Winehouse’s career, encompassing jazz, soul, gospel, Motown and hip hop. The Rookies will kick things off on Thursday November 9, followed by a powerhouse set from Thando on Thursday December 14. A night of Gospel music will go down in January, featuring an acapella rendition of Winehouse’s classic Back to Black, guided by Phia. Wrapping the lineup up comes a marathon soul DJ set from Vince Peach with DJ MzRizk closing out the action. There’ll even be an Amy Winehouse impersonator.
The flagship music event of the Amy Winehouse exhibition is a retrospective of her catalogue and influences. This incredible tribute at Memo Music Hall features an all-star band led by Jazz Party leader Darcy McNulty, with singers including Kylie Auldist, Alma Zygier and Elana Stone (All Our Exes live in Texas).
The Winehouse family collaborated with the Jewish Museum to showcase and share Amy’s belongings, including her guitar, record collection, and iconic outfits – which will all be brought together under one roof as part of the exhibition.
Other features of the display include a traditional Jewish cookbook, an exclusive mixtape, as well as seldom seen photos and a collection of backstage passes from when the troubled and iconic artist began playing major festivals.
