Melbourne Venues Outperform Rest Of Australia In 2013

According to the annual survey by America’s live music bible Pollstar, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena was the best performing arena, after selling 243,184 tickets in the six month period.

Rod Laver Arena ranked #21 in the world’s top 100 performing arenas. There were five other Australian venues, three from Sydney and one each in Brisbane and Perth.

The Palais Theatre was best performing theatre in Australia moving 95,357 tickets.

The Corner Hotel was the sole Australian entry in the global club venues section, ranked #27 with 47, 438 tickets sold.

Sidney Myer Music Bowl was ranked #7 globally with 102,016 tickets in the Amphitheatre section, with only Brisbane Riverstage as the other Australian entry, and which ranked at #47.

Frontier Touring leads the promoter pack so far this year. It came in at #16 internationally after shifting 528,661 tickets. Four other promoters – Chugg Entertainment, Bluesfest, Adrian Bohm Presents and Melbourne-based McManus Entertainment – also made the top 100. Melbourne-based Live Entertainment Australasia’s also performed well but its Australian sales are included in Live Nation’s global tally; the international company topped the Pollstar Top 100 list after selling a huge 9.8 million in this period.
