Melbourne Theatre Company is bringing its stage shows to the screen with MTC Digital Theatre

MTC Digital Theatre premieres this Friday.

This Friday April 16, Melbourne Theatre Company will launch its highly-anticipated MTC Digital Theatre, taking stage shows to screens across Australia in a bid to make theatre more accessible.

The first production available to watch on MTC Digital Theatre is Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes by Hannah Moscovitch, a compelling, #MeToo-era take on the classic student-teacher romance trope.

It will be followed by romantic-thriller and MTC Next Stage commission by Joanna Murray-Smith, Berlin, premiering in June.

Virtual tickets for MTC Digital Theatre will be priced at $25 per pass and will be available to watch Australia-wide on-demand for limited seasons.

“MTC Digital Theatre is a very exciting new venture for the Company. It’s been a dream of ours for some time and audiences have been asking for it with increasing frequency, especially after last year when there was very little Australian theatre available to stream,” said MTC Executive Director and Co-CEO, Virginia Lovett.

“COVID-19 has shown us all that digital experiences are now a core part of the performing arts offer, and will be critical in sector recovery and audience engagement into the future,” added Arts Centre Melbourne CEO, Claire Spencer AM.

“Collaborating with MTC to bring performances to the screen provides invaluable new opportunities for people no matter where they live to experience the splendour of the arts,” said Spencer.
