In a bid to “keep the music going”, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will host their first of several live streamed performance tonight via YouTube. Freely accessible, the live stream will see MSO performing Scheherazade from 7pm.
The news comes on the back of the announcement that all MSO concerts have been cancelled until Monday April 13. Refunds are available for ticketholders, though the MSO have asked patrons to consider donating their ticket costs to help fund future live stream performances.
MSO are working to arrange live stream performances of Beethoven & Mendelssohn, Melbourne Ensemble, Curriculum Concert (schools performance), and To Bach and Back, while Skyfall in Concert and Ben Folds: The Symphonic Tour will be rescheduled for a later date.
“Ensuring the wellbeing of MSO audiences, musicians and staff – including those integral members employed on casual and contract bases – is our priority,” said a spokesperson for the MSO in a statement.
“As a not-for-profit organisation, we are committed to ensuring the longevity and sustainability of the MSO and will continue to support workers and musicians through this uncertain period.”
