The first eight features have been uncovered highlighted by the captivating drama Tomcat. It shocked audiences at the Berlin International Film Festival where it took out the Teddy Award for Best Film in 2016 and explores the harmonious relationship between Andreas and Stefan which tragically falters.

A Date for Mad Mary sees Seána Kerslake give the performance of the festival as ‘Mad’ Mary McArdle, a young woman returning to her small Irish town after a prison stint. Lazy Eye is a sensual narrative between two ex-lovers who reconnect after a 15-year hiatus while Out Run is a documentary about Bemz Benedito, the leader of the world’s only LGBTIQ political party.

Other films to feature include the Melbourne premiere of Pulse – an independently-funded feature from Australian writer and actor Daniel Monks as well as Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four and TRANSformations.

Capping off the announcement is The Watermelon Woman – a feature of MQFF’s Bring It Back program of newly restored classics. The story explores the life of video shop assistant and fledgeling filmmaker Cheryl, who quickly becomes touted as ‘The Watermelon Woman’.
