Melbourne International Games Week is breaking out of the CBD this October.
The Victorian government has thrown open expressions of interest for Melbourne International Games Week 2025, with Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks announcing the mega event will take over from 4 to 12 October.
And here’s the exciting bit: Melbourne International Games Week is going beyond the city limits for the first time, with satellite events popping up across outer metro Melbourne and regional Victoria.
This is big news for anyone who’s ever felt left out of the inner-city action. Melbourne International Games Week has quickly grown into the Asia Pacific region’s biggest games industry celebration, but now it’s spreading the love across the state.

Inside the 2025 program
The 2025 program will light up familiar haunts like ACMI, Fed Square and the Melbourne Convention and Event Centre. Big Games Night Out is back, turning Fed Square and ACMI into a free, family-friendly gaming paradise with playable titles, food and entertainment. High Score returns as the go-to conference for music and sound design in video games, while Play Now Melbourne gives local devs the chance to pitch their projects to major publishers, platform holders and investors from around the world.
PAX Aus is rolling back into the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre for another massive celebration of games culture. You’ll get to check out the latest creations from Victorian game studios through the government-supported PAX Rising program.

Victoria is beginning to dominate Australia’s games industry with more studios and the biggest games workforce in the country. Local creators have given us brilliant titles like Cult of the Lamb, Stray Gods: The Role Playing Musical and Untitled Goose Game. Research from the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association shows more than 80 per cent of Australians play games, with over 90 per cent of families gaming together to connect and spend quality time.
Melbourne International Games Week typically hosts more than 60 initiatives and events from across the sector. This expanded program is actively hunting for satellite event submissions that’ll bring the festival to fresh audiences right across Victoria. The games industry keeps growing as a vital chunk of Victoria’s $41 billion creative economy, and Melbourne International Games Week delivers crucial networking for industry pros while entertaining absolutely everyone.
The festival’s global reputation puts Victoria’s game development scene on the international map, helping local studios crack international markets and score major partnerships.
Melbourne International Games Week 2025 expressions of interest close soon, with successful applicants getting the nod when the full program drops in August.
