Melbourne groove kings Mildlife are hitting The Astor for two back-to-back shows

Words by Tom Parker

As part of a national tour that will see them play both intimate venues and sizeable halls.

Melbourne cosmic jazz wanderers Mildlife have announced an intrepid tour around Australia this July, one which will take them to both intimate venues and sizeable halls.

It all kicks off in Melbourne with two dates on Saturday July 24 and Sunday July 25 at The Astor before the band stop by Torquay, Castlemaine, Ballarat and Koroit, before their adventures take them interstate.

What you need to know

  • Mildlife are hitting the road performing shows all across Australia throughout July, August and September
  • They’ll commence proceedings at The Astor on July 24 and 25
  • Tix are on sale now

Keep up with all the music news, reviews and interviews here.

The tour comes off the back of a small sold-out east coast run earlier this year, among other shows as part of the Malthouse Outdoor Stage program and Sun Cycle at Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

If this is your introduction to Mildlife, then you’ve probably been living under a rock. After releasing the wondrous Phase in 2018, the band followed things up with something just as succulent in 2020 – the six-track Automatic an extension on the band’s jazz geneses, offering electronic floorfillers, steady acoustics and opulent synthesisers that’d be fitting soundtracks to a dance in the desert.

Most recently, Mildlife performed a special livestream show from South Channel Island off the coast of Sorrento. Streamed exclusively to Bandcamp, the performance saw Mildlife deliver their mesmeric live display to a lucky crowd of fairy penguins, fur seals and music lovers tuning in from around the world.

Mildlife come to The Astor on Saturday July 24 and Sunday July 25, as well as regional venues such as the Torquay Hotel, Theatre Royal in Castlemaine, Ballarat’s The Eastern and the Koroit Theatre. Grab tix via Handsome Tours.
