The Round will house a 600+ seat proscenium theatre, a 200-seat studio theatre, two multipurpose rehearsal studios and versatile function spaces made for business, community or private use.

The new theatre, decked out with high-end sound and lighting technology, dressing rooms, accessible bathrooms, laundry facilities, a green room, a production office space, and a hearing augmentation system, will be fit for everyone from national treasures to world-class performers.

The theatre’s design allows it to be easily reconfigured for a variety of uses, including small-scale plays, comedy, dance rehearsals, live music, movie screenings and more.

“Whitehorse City Council is incredibly excited to present The Round and unveil the new, world-class venue which we hope will become the cultural heart of Melbourne’s East. The Round has been designed to broaden the opportunities for our community to connect with the arts, as well as with one another, and be enjoyed for generations to come,” says Cr Mark Lane, Mayor of the Whitehorse City Council.

What’s more, they’re also building a sound shell in the lush suburban parklands surrounding The Round to allow for outdoor performances, community events and festivals during the warmer months.

The team behind The Round is already working on a huge events lineup for the summer featuring contemporary music, cabaret, comedy and theatre. On Friday, October 13, The Round is hosting its official opening party with a performance by much-loved Melbourne musicians Lucy Durack and Gary Pinto.
