Off the back of his new album, Rainbow Valley, Matt Corby has announced his first headline tour in two years which will take him across the country from Rockhampton through Townsville and Cairns, then down through New South Wales, Victoria and into Hobart before finishing off in Perth.
It’s a mammoth run of shows and celebrates an extremely special collection of work. Rainbow Valley embodies a sea change, the life phenomenon of starting a family and a change of songwriting tack. The new album is lush, multi-textured and sparked by hints of both old soul and futuristic psychedelia.
Corby took a more simplified approach into his sophomore LP after creating somewhat of a chaotic production space with his debut album, Telluric.
Speaking about Rainbow Valley for Beat’s cover story, Corby noted the freedom of the change.
“It was actually quite fun working like that, because it was merely based on instinct. I never really got to a point where I was freaking out, or over-thinking something and destroying it in the process,” he adds. “I think I’m really good at that – having a really cool idea and completely fucking with it until it’s in a thousand pieces, and making it completely unrecognisable because it’s just not the same anymore.”
