Mexican Independence Day melbourne
words by staff writer

Spice up your night and celebrate Mexican Independence Day in style with a five-course culinary extravaganza.

Theo Loizou, of Masterchef fame, is taking over Hencho en Mexico in Fitzroy tonight for a one-night-only culinary event, celebrating the lead-up to the day when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rallied the people to stand against Spanish occupation in 1810.

The Mexican Independence Mezcal Fiesta feast starts at 7:00 pm, and kicks off with a bang as you’re welcomed with a shot of 400 Conejos Espadín Mezcal.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

Theo Loizou, fresh from his Masterchef journey in season 15, is set to be your culinary guide for the evening. He’s prepared a five-course menu infused with Mexican flavours, each dish bearing his unique twist. From Octopus tacos with spicy corn and onion salsa to Lamb with mezcal glaze, the menu promises an explosion of taste that will transport your palate straight to Mexico.

Don’t fret, vegetarians among us, Theo has you covered too. The vegetarian menu offers delights like thrice-cooked chips with ancho chilli salt and grated manchego, and Tacos de nopales.

Of course, no Mexican celebration is complete without the perfect mezcal to complement the dishes. Crafted in Oaxaca, Mexico, using traditional methods and 100% Espadín agave, 400 Conejos will be expertly paired with each course.

Whether you choose indoor, outdoor, or upstairs seating, expect an immersive Mexican experience that pays homage to the nation’s rich culinary heritage and its vibrant culture.

Head on over to 326 Brunswick Street tonight for the fiesta. Find out more by heading here.
