Signalling infrastructure and boom gates at Bear Street, Mordialloc will be dismantled. The road remains permanently closed to traffic. The project transforms the area under the rail bridge into a vibrant new station precinct. It aims to safer connections to nearby shops and transport.
The new elevated Mordialloc Station features modern facilities and improved accessibility. Entrances appear at both ends of the platforms. The station includes improved lighting and public spaces. Landscaping adds 86,000 trees, shrubs and grasses.
The project predicts it will save time for more than 26,000 vehicles travelling through these crossings daily. Currently, boom gates stay down more than 40 minutes during morning peak. These crossings recorded 12 near misses and one fatality since 2016.
Construction continues on elevated rail bridges and the new Melbourne train station throughout the project period. Frankston Line services operate on altered timetables until mid-2026 to minimise passenger disruption. All services arrive and depart from Platform 1 when trains resume.
Bus services replace train operations during the critical construction phase. Passengers need to plan alternative travel arrangements for the affected period.
Mordialloc becomes boom gate free when construction completes in 2026. The elevated design eliminates dangerous intersections between road and rail traffic.
Melbourne removes 110 dangerous and congested level crossings by 2030. The program has eliminated 86 crossings permanently. The Mordialloc Level Crossing Removals project continues this systematic infrastructure upgrade across the metropolitan network.
