Issue 1739

Editor’s Note

April is here and Melbourne is about to get very, very funny.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival has rolled back into town, and this month’s issue is loaded with everything you need to navigate one of the city’s most chaotic and brilliant stretches on the calendar.

Within are three of the fest’s sharpest international acts: Scotland’s Daniel Sloss, who’s earned a reputation as one of the most fearless comics working today; Chloe Petts, whose lad-culture swagger has made them one of the UK’s most in-demand standups; and Sam Nicoresti, the reigning Edinburgh Comedy Award winner whose show Baby Doomer blends surreal theatre, standup and cosmic dread into something entirely her own.

Beyond the comedy, we’re sitting down with Regurgitator, a band that refuses to stop being interesting, and Newton Faulkner, who’s bringing his acoustic wizardry back to Australian stages. You’ll also find our festival guide, stage and gig guide, and a curated rundown of some of the best acts to catch across MICF.

Get out there. It’s going to be a big month.
