Luke McGregor and Hannah Gadsby are hosting the Comedy Festival’s gala and opening night

Comedy Festival opening

"I am really very chuffed to get to host the Opening Night Gala as part of the first all-Tasmanian hosting lineup (probably).”

This year, two Tasmanian ex-pats will be hosting the two biggest nights on the Australian comedy calendar. Luke McGregor, fresh off his Australian Taskmaster debut and wedding, will be hosting The Gala. Hannah Gadsby, an international award-winning comedian, will be taking charge of the Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow to officially open the Festival.

“I’m really looking forward to hosting The Gala this year,” says Luke McGregor. “It’s an honour to be asked, it’s one of the biggest nights of the comedy festival, and it’s the first time my partner (now wife) will see me do live stand up so no pressure.”

“The Melbourne Comedy Festival is where I first found my feet as a comedian (metaphorically), and I’m happy to report that this year I’ll finally find my feet there again (literally),” says Hannah Gadsby. “I am really very chuffed to get to host the Opening Night Gala as part of the first all-Tasmanian hosting lineup (probably).”

Unfortunately, both The Gala and the Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow are sold out. However, limited final release tickets may be available closer to the events. Both shows will be recorded live at the iconic Palais Theatre and screened later on ABC TV and ABC iview.
