The creators of beer’s most weird and wonderful innovations are back.
After last year’s simultaneous return of beer heavyweights, ‘Where Strides the Behemoth’ and ‘Betelgeuse’, led to the very first KAIJU! Heavyweights of Beer Title Fight, it was inevitable that a rematch would ensue.
Releasing these two beers at the same time, and encouraging beer lovers to try them against each other, was a unique way to bring back two KAIJU! favourites after a long absence, which was well-received by beer lovers.

With the release of these bigger beers arriving on July 1 – perfect for winter – it looks like the Heavyweights of Beer Title Fight might become an annual occasion, which would be a welcome addition to any beer calendar.
So what can be expected from this year’s encounter?
KAIJU!’s ‘Where Strides the Behemoth’ Double India Black Ale is probably Australia’s hoppiest beer, with 30 grams added per litre produced. The roast, chocolate, coffee and malty intensity still asserts itself alongside the huge, dank hop character in this bold and adventurous drink.
With rummy notes, 10.5% ABV and made with Chinook, Columbus, Amarillo and Simcoe (US) hops, this beer provides full palate saturation and an unforgettable experience. It’s an intensity that can’t be adequately described, only experienced.
Next, is KAIJU’s ‘Cosmos Disrupting Betelgeuse’ Double Red Ale. The big brother of KAIJU!’s ‘Hopped Out Red’ offering, the beer presents much like a hoppy American barley wine. Heady malt character and firm hop bitterness, this one lingers on the palate for minutes.
With Columbus, Chinook, Cascade, Cryo Mosaic (US) and Nelson Sauvin (NZ) hops, in ‘Cosmos Disrupting Betelguese’ you can expect an expansive, delicious drop.
Find these beer heavyweights at your local bottle shop from July 1 or head to the KAIJU! website for stockists.
