Last year’s inaugural event saw performances from the likes of Disclosure, TNGHT, Duke Dumont and more (check out our review here), so who’s coming for 2014?
Earlier this year enigmatic producer Zhu told triple j that he’d be coming Down Under later this year. Alongside the fact that his track Faded plays in this year’s Listen Out teaser video (see above) we’re banking that you can lock him in for 2014.
Hot on the heels of the release of their latest highly-acclaimed LP Nabuma Rubberband Little Dragon announced an intimate Australian tour for this August – perhaps a little too intimate. Their Melbourne show at the Corner Hotel sold out within 13 hours and no extra shows have been announced. Perhaps a teaser tour for Listen Out then? With a solid touring gap in October and having played at Listen Out’s prior incarnation Parklife in 2011 we wouldn’t be surprised with the Swedes garnering a top-billing spot on the 2014 lineup.
Hot Chip were in Melbourne last weekend in DJ format – it’s been too long between drinks for a full-scale band tour and they’d suit Listen Out to a tee. Caribou just dropped a sublime new single from his upcoming album which he’ll no doubt be touring in Australia, we wouldn’t be surprised if his touring buddy Four Tet joined him for the ride either. There are also rumours that Madteo, Miguel Campbell and Huerco S have Australian tours in their sights.
A curveball? Die Antwoord just dropped a new record and would make a noteworthy addition. Feed Me, Eats Everything and Seth Troxler are Australian favourites – we wouldn’t be surprised if Dillon Francis, Diplo, Nina Kraviz or Nero decided to return to our shores once more.
Last year local talent played a huge role in the lineup. So who’s killing it in Australia at the moment? SAFIA are set to tour the country supporting Lorde mighty soon and seem destined for big things. Seekae might feel like another trip around the country after their album tour. Bag Raiders are back on the scene, and after their appearance at Splendour in the Grass we wouldn’t be surprised if festival crowds are yearning for more Paces – same goes for Motez, Touch Sensitive, Cosmos Midnight and Sable.
Who won’t be on the bill? While he’s in Melbourne on the exact same day as Listen Out, you can cross Hardwell off your list as he’s just announced a massive Australian headline tour. Electronic prodigy Porter Robinson would fit the bill as he embarks on his Worlds album tour, but he’s already locked up in North America in October, and as much as we’d like to see a return from The Whitest Boy Alive – they broke up last week.
