“My name is Lily Parker and my band’s name is Lt. Naima, but I will be playing solo on Friday. I write songs, sing and play keys/synths/guitar.”
What do you reckon people will say you sound like?
“I play dream pop. Has been described as ethereal and hypnotic.”
What do you love about making music?
“There’s no greater satisfaction than writing a song, and to have people listen and (hopefully) feel something. Music and art make us human.”
What do you hate about the music industry?
“That there are so many talented musicians with beautiful, thoughtful music, whom cannot make a living from working in the industry, which I think is a shame.”
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?
“I’d love to show Mozart the child prodigy my stuff, ‘cos it would be amazing to see what he thought. Actually if I did get to do that, I’d rather just hear him play.”
If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?
“Lady Gaga – her look is unique but she doesn’t back it up with decent music, which seems stupid to me.”
What can a punter expect from your live show?
“Dreamy pop with minimalist grooves & vocals mixed with lushed out piano, inspired by elements of classical and jazz.”
What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?
“I have a track called Float Away available for download from my Soundcloud/Facebook pages.”
When’s the gig and with who?
“The gig is on Friday May 27 at Vibe On Smith St, at 7pm. I’m playing a songwriting round with Tessa Pavilach from Tessa & the Typecast and another local artist Little Wolf.”
Anything else to add?
“Catch my band Lt. Naima at The Evelyn in Fitzroy on June 20 supporting Tully & The Thief. Big shout out to The Melting Pot for supporting singer/songwriters and to my lovelies at 51.”
