(Wild) Life Drawing

Imagine being able to step back in time and capture the cabaret atmosphere that a series of famous master artists famously immersed themselves in. We have a range of explorations in this series including:

  • Lautrec & the Drunken Bourgeoisie (incl. cabaret & clown sessions)
  • Degas’ Dancers (incl. cabaret & dancer sessions)
  • Klimt’s World of Patterns (incl. fashion, portraiture & pattern experiments)
  • Blackest Black (using ink to express gesture & movement) feat. Gina Stirling in black latex posing on a 1949 Panhead Harley Davidson
  • Traditional au naturel reclining pose sessions, with an array of guest models (upstairs only). Available by request only.

Fun, engaging, costumed, vibrant, colourful ~ this session is a life drawing extravaganza like no other. Leave the pressure to make a perfect picture at home, and join us for an afternoon or evening of excitement and vibrance.

The french artist themed events feature a carefully curated background soundtrack of french gypsy / electro swing / cabaret and an incredible range of movement and theatrical poses from an enigmatic Naarm-based cabaret / burlesque performer.

The Blackest Black event features live electric blues performance by Georgia Rodgers alongside burlesque & cabaret performer Gina Stirling posing for a mid-winter celebration of all things dark and gloriously moody. With rich, dark stout on tap to accompany the theme of the evening.

The Klimt session features burlesque & cabaret performer Azcadelia modelling in our upstairs theatre space. The first half of the session is costumed, and the second half has nude poses. In Art Club beforehand, we will demo techniques to apply metallic foil and pattern-making to images to create vibrant contrast and express character and gesture.

Guided by an experienced and passionate local artist, each event will start with an introduction to relevant artworks and muses for context and atmosphere. Some tips and tricks will also be introduced to deal with ‘blank canvas paralysis’.

Then, for the main session, drawers will be guided through short and medium length poses whilst exploring some new and completely freeing drawing techniques. This will lead up to some theatrical movement-based poses to enable you to explore gestural impressionism and express dynamic movements in a range of mediums. Finally, the session will close after a longer, portrait pose wherein you can really hone in.

Beginners to experienced artists are welcome; guidance will be provided for beginners if required but otherwise established artists can feel free to express freely & explore with the materials as desired.

Bring a buddy along and enjoy 2 for $25 on cocktails to get you loosened up and into the groove. Plus $10 Raspberry Collins and $10 Dark n Stormies.

Class size is limited to a maximum of 20 people spread out in the large upstairs studio, to provide a covid-safe environment, so book early to avoid missing out on a seat.

Drawing boards, paper and charcoal will be available along with a range of materials for you to experiment with. Feel free to bring anything you are comfortable drawing with or have been meaning to try out. If you’d like to request an easel, please leave a note in the ‘notes to seller’ section as you checkout.

See you in the creative zone!
