Action superstar Liam Neeson has begun filming his third Victorian production in four years, The Mongoose, across metropolitan and regional locations.

The new action-thriller sees Neeson playing Ryan “Fang” Flanagan, a war hero who leads police on an epic televised cross-country pursuit while aided by his former Special Forces battalion. The production brings together an international cast including Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei, Ving Rhames and Michael Chiklis, alongside local talent Ryan Morgan, Maurice Meredith, Toby Truslove, and Aisha Aidara.

Directed by veteran stunt professional Mark Vanselow, the film will create more than 450 jobs for Victorian screen workers and engage 150 local businesses, including Melbourne-based drone specialists XM2 for aerial cinematography.

The production marks another significant investment in Victoria’s screen industry, following Neeson’s previous local productions Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky and Blacklight, which generated more than $55 million for the state economy and created over 1,300 jobs.

“I’m honoured to be back in Victoria working on my latest film The Mongoose with one of the best crews, again, that I have ever worked with in over 100 movies,” says Neeson.

Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks says: “We’re thrilled to welcome Liam Neeson and the team back to Victoria to make yet another action-packed movie that will create hundreds of local jobs, engage local businesses and generate millions for our economy.”

VicScreen CEO Caroline Pitcher highlights Victoria’s growing reputation: “Since the inception of Victoria’s Screen Industry Strategy in 2021 we have seen exceptional economic growth, creative success and cultural value delivered to Victoria. This performance is derived from setting a bold vision and working as a united industry to become a global powerhouse for screen.”

The project, supported through VicScreen’s Victorian Screen Rebate and the Federal Government’s Location Offset, reunites Neeson with Code Entertainment, producers of both Ice Road instalments. The film was written by Thompson Evans and will be produced by Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt, and Eugene Musso.
