Slowly Slowly’s new album Forgiving Spree was on full display on the biggest stage of the band’s career thus far.
Local lovers Slowly Slowly just played an arena. Let’s put this in context. Our hometown heroes have been on the come up for a while now, hitting bigger and bigger milestones with each new melodic move, but this one is impressive.
Festival performances aside, their last Melbourne headline show was at the Forum in May 2023, and everyone, including the band, was impressed and excited that the boys filled that venue. This time, they hit Margaret Court arena – which is much bigger.

These are the lads that we used to catch at the Worker’s Club and other small venues around town. It was a big deal when they sold out the Corner. Now, it’s a freaking arena, and you couldn’t find a more natural and suitable progression.
With a set that leaned heavily on tracks from their latest release, Forgiving Spree, they took to the arena stage like ducks to water. Perhaps in some form of manifestation, new songs like Gimmie the Wrench seemed perfectly suited to a bigger space and a more impressive light show.
But here’s the clincher: it still felt like we were all in the Worker’s Club – in a good way. Yes, the band is getting bigger; yes, their songs are a little more polished, but there was still a closeness in their delivery that made the arena feel like a club.
Even the few tracks from older releases like Alchemy and Ten Leaf Clover translated perfectly to the big stage without losing their intimacy. That’s not an easy thing to do. How do the songs you wrote for the Worker’s Club feel just as suited to Margaret Court? Maybe Slowly Slowly were suited to arenas all along.
