Ahead of St. Jerome’s Laneway 2025 lineup announcement, we predict which party legends will be on the bill for the upcoming instalment of the festival.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this coming February, the pressure is on for St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival to come up with a lineup of the most epic proportions to honour the last two decades of street parties and racecourse raves.
What began as a predominantly indie music event in Melbourne in 2005, Laneway has since expanded from the humble birthplace of the CBD’s Caledonian Lane, reaching out across the globe and across the musical spectrum.
Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.
2025’s edition of the festival will see events held in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and across the ditch in Auckland. Melbourne’s version of the festival will take place on Wurundjeri Country at Flemington Racecourse on February 14.
Love will be in the air at Melbourne’s Laneway, and perhaps a hell of a lot of popstars too. The official lineup is set to drop on Wednesday, October 9. Until then, read on for the predictions and potentials that might just be making an appearance at Laneway in 2025.
Charli XCX
If you want to Guess the colour of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2025, you’d have a pretty safe bet on brat green. The British pop star is all but confirmed to headline the festival in February thanks to the appearance of a slime green billboard offering just one word: laneway. Other keen eyes have pointed out that Laneway’s logo features an apple-like shape under the ’25’. All signs point to hearing those club classics at Laneway.
Chappell Roan
Securing two of the biggest pop girlies in the world right now may seem like a far stretch, but rumour has it that Laneway got on the Chappell Roan bandwagon just in time. It’s speculated that the festival booked the Midwest Princess between her last Aussie tour and her Coachella performance. If the rumours are true, Laneway will be thanking its lucky stars that they have aligned to secure your favourite artist’s favourite artist on their festival stage come February.
The 1975
Perhaps a rogue prediction considering The 1975 were just at Laneway in the year of our lord 2020, but then so was Charli. They currently don’t have any new music in the pipeline and haven’t dropped any hints that they’re heading down under, but hear me out: a Charli b2b George Daniel set…?
Role Model
Well, well, well – look who’s in town in February. Singer-songwriter Role Model is paying Australia a visit on his No Place Like Tour tour just as Laneway sweeps through. Set to perform sold-out shows in Sydney on February 6 and Melbourne on February 8, the dates line up just enough for Role Model to make an appearance at some – but not all – of Laneway’s festival days. Here’s to hoping he stays in town for a Naarm-based Valentine’s Day.
Amyl and the Sniffers
If Aussie rockers Amyl and the Sniffers aren’t on the lineup, they should be. A band that seems to be perpetually on tour, it’d be forgiven if Amyl was off somewhere exotic in February playing their punk pub rock to a crowd that doesn’t know what a parma is. Set to release their newest album Cartoon Darkness later this month, it’d only make sense for an Amyl album tour to be on the horizon. And, fingers crossed, just in time for Feb.
Reneé Rapp
Laneway could very much be getting a pop girlie takeover if the Reneé Rapp rumours hold true. The American pop star knows how to command a festival stage, à la Coachella. Another name that has rose to fame in the last nine or so months (thanks to the Broadway-come-film remake of Mean Girls), the question remains if Laneway’s crystal ball is as prophetic as they hoped it was when they were booking the festival’s 2025 artists.
Beabadoobee
British gem Beabadoobee seems to be a Laneway pick on everyone’s lips. Whether it’s because she’s actually likely to make an appearance at the festival or just because everyone wants her to, maybe manifestation is the key to bringing Beabadoobee back down under.
Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers
Just about to head off on their Australian tour, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are in the midst of new music releases. The rising rockers feel like the sort of band you’d for sure see on a Laneway stage. Or, if not, then surely in the mosh pit next to you.
The Rions
Laneway loves a dash of indie rock to beef out the bill. Enter, The Rions. This four-piece from New South Wales’ Northern Beaches have just released a new EP and will be wrapping up their Aus tour in December. These up-and-comers would slot in pretty well to Laneway’s 2025 edition, both logistically and sonically.
The ‘Probably Not But Definitely Should’s
Addison Rae would be a crazy get considering the other pop girlies supposedly headlining, but Laneway surely has it in them to bring some Diet Pepsi down under.
If we’re not going to get a SWEAT tour, then surely a Troye Sivan and Charli cameo at Laneway is called for.
There’s a healthy enough gap in between Fontaines D.C.’s December Irish shows and June Italian ones to fit in a trip to the Southern Hemisphere. It’s undeniable that a Romance set at Laneway would be the cherry on top to a gorgeous Valentine’s Day.
