words by staff writer

Kyabram Fauna Park has opened a turtle-shaped splash park and upgraded enclosures as part of major facility improvements.

Kyabram Fauna Park has unveiled a 580-square-metre splash park shaped like a Broad-shelled Turtle, alongside upgraded trails and wildlife habitats. Minister for the Environment Steve Dimopoulos opened the new facilities today, which include improved enclosures for newly arrived animals such as a quoll, wombat and meerkat.

Two kilometres of paths have been upgraded at the park, making it easier for visitors with mobility needs and families with prams to access the splash park and exhibits. Enclosures and facilities were also improved to accommodate new animals, enhance animal welfare by providing additional space, and allow better visitor experiences and viewing opportunities.

A new wildlife hospital will also be built at Kyabram Fauna Park, backed by $2.8 million from the Victorian government. The purpose-built facility will support the treatment and rehabilitation of native wildlife across northern Victoria.

These investments are strengthening Kyabram’s position as a regional tourism destination, supporting local jobs, protecting native wildlife and providing families of all abilities with activities. Splash Park design elements are inspired by the endangered Broad-shelled Turtle, a totem of the local Yorta Yorta people, incorporating cultural and conservation themes into the development. The addition complements the park’s year-round animal experiences and its role in wildlife education and conservation.

Through the Victorian government’s Kids Go Free program, children under 16 receive free admission to Kyabram Fauna Park, Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo on weekends, public holidays and school holidays.
