King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard lose beloved drummer and manager Eric Moore

Words by Tom Parker

Moore will be shifting more of his focus to his label, Flightless Records.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard wouldn’t be where they are today without Eric Moore. Not only an important cog in the band’s live troupe – as the drumming comrade to Michael Cavanagh – Moore was also the manager of the band and was instrumental in elevating the band’s international profile.

His label, Flightless Records, has acted and will continue to act as a critical springboard for the band. Without Flightless, listeners wouldn’t have the same picture of King Gizzard. Releasing five albums in 2017 without the label would have been near-impossible. When the band announced they would reissue a bunch of their early records in 2018, Flightless proved imperative.

Remember when the band released their 12th album, Polygondwanaland, as a free download? They couldn’t have devised this generous masterstroke without Flightless.

Today, Eric Moore has announced that he will be departing as drummer and manager of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Moore announced the decision via Flightless’ Instagram page.

“It is with great sadness that I announce my time with King Gizz has come to an end,” he said in the Instagram post. “I will keep working with Gizz putting out records but I will no longer be an active member or manager of the group. To anyone that caught a show and dived into our world over the last 10 years I just want to say thank you for the support.”

While Moore’s immediate involvement with Gizz will lessen, the Flightless evolution will continue so you can expect to see more and more incredible releases put out by the label in years to come.

“I was a fan boy from day one and am so grateful for everything I’ve learnt with my best mates by my side,” Moore continued. “Life goes on however, and I’m excited to keep growing the label and continuing to champion new artists and business endeavours until the lights go out.”
