King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will perform at the Palace Foreshore in December with special guests Stella Donnelly and Civic.

Australia’s prolific psych-rock group, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have today announced a Melbourne show for this December.

The atom-splitting polymaths will bring new music from their upcoming three studio albums to the Palace Foreshore on Saturday, 10 December. Joining King Gizz for the Melbourne show will be Perth singer-songwriter Stella Donnelly and Melbourne punk rockers Civic.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have exceeded even the most hyperbolic projections with the recent announcement of their upcoming release of THREE new albums, all set for flight during the month of October via their own KGLW label. The first to drop will be the Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava (out October 7), followed by Laminated Denim (out October 12) and Changes (out October 28).

The new album releases will all be happening during the height of Gizz’s North American Takeover, as the band traverses across the continent playing their largest venues yet, including three shows at Red Rocks Amphitheater and New York’s Forest Hills Stadium (where Dylan went electric, no less).

The stats on King Gizzard’s colourful career are stacking up fast: 23 albums (including five in 2017 alone), 10 of them charting in the Top 20 in Australia, where they are now arguably the country’s most innovative, important and productive rock band. International critical acclaim. Headline festival appearances. And perhaps most importantly, a fervent worldwide fanbase who share endless memes, mixes, videos, graphics, theories and discussions, all through which they explore and expand what they have termed ‘The Gizzverse’.

Fresh from a massive world tour, including stops at Los Angeles, Chicago, Brooklyn, and a plethora of dates across Europe and the UK, Stella Donnelly will join King Gizz for the Melbourne show. 2022 has been a huge year for the Perth singer-songwriter, which included the release of her sophomore album Flood. Following 2019’s Beware of the Dogs, Flood is Donnelly’s record of rediscovery: the product of months of risky experimentation, hard moments of introspection, and a lot of transition.

Opening proceedings will be Melbourne five-piece CIVIC, who have built a reputation of making no-nonsense rock & roll that harkens back to raw ’70s punk, pub rock, and power pop. After delivering a trio of EPs in the late 2010s, the band released their debut full-length Future Forecast in 2021 via King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Flightless label.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will perform at the Palace Foreshore in Melbourne on Saturday, December 10. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, September 20 at 10am. For more info, head here.
